Nestled in the lively corner of 1441 Stockton Street in San Francisco’s bustling North Beach district, Cavalli Cafe is a charming haven for coffee aficionados and pastry lovers alike. This local gem exudes a warm, artistic vibe, attracting creatives who appreciate both quality brews and a relaxed atmosphere to work or unwind.
Cavalli Cafe’s menu is a delightful journey through classic Italian and international café favorites. Their signature Cannoli with Pistachio and Chocolate stands out—a crispy, delicate shell filled fresh upon order with a rich, subtly sweet ricotta cream, punctuated by vibrant pistachio and intense chocolate undertones. Paired with this, the Tiramisu Cake offers a luscious, velvety finish balanced by espresso-soaked layers and a dusting of cocoa that melts on your tongue, crafting a sublime experience for anyone craving authentic Italian confections.
Beyond these highlights, the selection is extensive: from freshly baked Italian pastries and cookies to inventive beverages like the Tiramisu Cappuccino which marries the bitterness of espresso with creamy sweetness, to the robust and aromatic Turkish Coffee, providing a bold twist that excites the palate. Smoothies made with fresh fruit flavors such as mango and strawberry offer a refreshing option, while classics like the Latte Macchiato and Dirty Chai Latte cater to those who savor layered, comforting drinks.
The café itself possesses a unique duality—a bustling street-level café that spills onto a busy corner filled with city energy and a quieter upstairs seating area, offering a peaceful perch perfect for people-watching or immersing yourself in thought. Multiple patrons have praised Cavalli for its welcoming and funky ambiance, noting the helpful and friendly staff who make each visit enjoyable.
While the outdoor patio occasionally experiences the nearby presence of smokers and urban noise—typical of its vibrant neighborhood—the upstairs retreat more than compensates with calm and a great vantage point to observe the colorful street life below. Customers frequently mention that the blend of great coffee, delectable pastries, and a cozy atmosphere makes Cavalli Cafe a delightful spot to recharge, work, or catch up with friends.
Whether you are indulging in the almond croissant, savoring a roast beef sandwich, or sipping a perfectly brewed espresso, Cavalli Cafe’s offerings engage your senses and invite you to enjoy simple, authentic pleasures. It’s a rare find in San Francisco’s café scene where attention to quality and customer comfort come together seamlessly.
With easy payment options accommodating both card and cash, Cavalli Cafe embraces a fuss-free approach to great coffee culture. If you’re looking to experience rich flavors, friendly ambiance, and a genuine slice of San Francisco’s café charm, this is a destination you won’t want to miss.
Prior to this visit I had possibly the best Cannoli I have ever had. Today we tried the Mille-Feuille (Napoleon Pastry). It was outstanding. Also tried the almond cookies. Outstanding also. I had a wonderful espresso and my friend had a latte with soy milk. Nice little place with room to sit upstairs and people watch on the busy corner below.
They only have one cannoli type/flavor but it did taste good. The service was quick and easy. They even have seating in the second level that is quiet and nice. The only issue is that there was quite a few people smoking outside nearly the entire time and the smoke smell was blowing in. It is possible that this was a one time thing but it may not be. If no one is smoking outside I think this is a great place for an espresso and pastry! Try it out.
Simple local run cafe. I often see artistic people sitting & working. The bus stand outside makes the entrance a bit rough. Enjoyed almond croissant, coconut cake, and coffee.
Nice spot with good drink and bakery options! Like others have said the patio is often occupied by people smoking and the bus stop right out front makes it rather busy. So head upstairs and enjoy the quieter view of the street below! I’m not sure if I just don’t love cannoli or have never had a good one. This one was okay. I appreciate that it was filled upon ordering and the presentation was nice. $9 feels a little steep but oh well. I also got a strawberry smoothie and it was really good (but also a bit pricey).
Great coffee and bakery with delicious offerings of both. They take card or cash - it’s amazing that so many paces only take cash. Staff were helpful and friendly. Funky and welcoming vibe and a fun place to hang out.
Cannoli is pretty fantastic. Service was ok. Great little cafe and sneak upstairs if you’re after some peace and quiet
